Poster Competition Celebrating International Women's Day

Event Overview

On March 9th, 2024, a vibrant and inspiring poster competition was organized jointly by the All Pakistan Women's Association (APWA) and Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) to commemorate International Women's Day. The event was a celebration of female empowerment and creativity, bringing together students, educators, and executives from both NGOs. The competition aimed to encourage artistic expression for the theme “Inspire Inclusion – Invest in Women’s education to accelerate progress” and raise awareness about the importance of gender equality and women's rights.

Students created paintings within their schools, with guidance from teachers and head teachers. These artworks were then displayed to form a poster gallery walk during the celebration. The program showcased various highlights, including recitations, speeches, a welcome song performance, and a cultural song performance, all presented by students from APWA Schools.

Event Highlights

  • Recitations and Speeches: The event began with inspirational recitations and speeches delivered by students, emphasizing the significance of women's empowerment and education.

  • Welcome Song Performance: A beautiful welcome song was performed by students, setting a positive and celebratory tone for the event.

  • Cultural Song Performance: Students also presented a cultural song, highlighting the rich heritage and artistic talent of the participants.

Activities and Participation

Participants were generously provided with lunch boxes and stationery kits, while winners received certificates and gifts. Refreshments were served to guests at the conclusion of the event. Thanks to the diligent efforts of the WiLAT chairperson, a donation totaling Rs. 75,000/- was gathered and transferred to APWA's bank account to cover the event expenses.

Participants

Around 90 students from three APWA Schools in Karachi enthusiastically participated in the competition, showcasing their artistic talents across various grade levels from V to X. The diverse range of entries reflected the students' perspectives on women's empowerment, highlighting themes of resilience, leadership, and inclusivity. In addition to the participants in the poster competition, there were 10 additional students who performed. Furthermore, 20 teachers and 3 head teachers also took part in the celebration.

Judging Process

A panel of esteemed judges, comprising representatives from APWA, WiLAT, and educational experts, meticulously evaluated the entries. Winners were identified in three categories: Grade V & VI, Grade VII & VIII, and Grade IX & X. Within each category, prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, along with a special prize for exceptional creativity and originality. Additionally, three teachers were also recognized for their support and guidance to the students.

Recognition and Awards

The chief guest, Mohammad Ahmed Shah, along with Chairperson WiLAT Mrs. Nasreen Haq, Executive Vice President APWA Dr. Tanvir Kamal, and Mrs. Jahanara Hai – APWA Chairperson Foreign Affairs, announced the winners of the competition. The winners were honored with certificates and thoughtful gifts, acknowledging their artistic achievements. Furthermore, the Chief Guest announced a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- for the top performers, providing further encouragement and recognition for their talents and efforts.

The celebration of International Women's Day through the poster competition garnered significant media attention, with several newspapers highlighting the event's success and the meaningful contributions of the participating students, educators, and NGO executives. The extensive coverage helped amplify the message of “Inspire Inclusion – Invest in Women’s education to accelerate progress,” reaching a wider audience and inspiring others to join the cause.

Conclusion

The poster competition organized in collaboration between APWA and WiLAT was a resounding success, serving as a testament to the creativity, talent, and commitment of the participants towards advancing the rights and opportunities of women and girls. Through artistic expression and community engagement, the event contributed to fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment, reaffirming the importance of collective action in achieving gender equality.
