Environment Day Celebration with Sindh Education Foundation

Participants: 80 students from 3 APWA Schools in Karachi working in contract with SEF

Introduction

On 5th June 2024, the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) organized a grand celebration to mark Environment Day. The event was a vibrant showcase of the commitment to environmental conservation, featuring various activities and projects aimed at promoting the principles of “land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience,” with the slogan, “Our Land, Our Future.”


Activities and Exhibitions

The celebration was bustling with activities designed to engage and educate attendees on the importance of environmental stewardship:


Projects Display:

1. Save Earth: Exhibits highlighted innovative methods to reduce carbon footprints, sustainable living practices, and the significance of biodiversity.

2. Save Water: Displays demonstrated techniques for water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and efficient water usage.

3. Recycle, Reuse, Reduce: Interactive exhibits showcased creative recycling projects, the benefits of reusing materials, and strategies to minimize waste.


Live Drawing and Painting:

Young artists and enthusiasts participated in live drawing and painting sessions, expressing their vision for a greener planet. Their artwork vividly depicted themes of nature conservation, pollution control, and the beauty of a clean environment.


Card Making:

Participants engaged in making eco-friendly greeting cards using recycled materials. This activity not only fostered creativity but also emphasized the importance of reusing resources.


Speeches and Presentations

The program featured a lineup of distinguished speakers who shared their insights and urged collective action towards environmental protection.


Keynote Speaker: Murtaza Wahab - Mayor Karachi

The Mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, delivered an inspiring keynote address, underscoring the critical need to grow trees and preserve our natural environment. He highlighted the following points:

  • Significance of Tree Planting:Emphasized the tradition of planting trees to celebrate the birth of a child or during other joyous occasions. This practice not only commemorates special moments but also contributes to a greener planet.

  • Securing the Future: Stressed the urgent need to adopt sustainable practices today to ensure a healthy and secure environment for future generations. He called upon the community to take proactive steps in reducing pollution, conserving natural resources, and fostering an eco-friendly lifestyle.


Other notable speakers included environmentalists, local leaders, and educators who shared their perspectives and practical tips on environmental conservation.


The Environment Day celebration was a resounding success, with participants leaving with a heightened awareness of their role in protecting the environment. The diverse range of activities, coupled with insightful speeches, provided a comprehensive understanding of environmental issues and inspired attendees to take meaningful action in their daily lives.
