Overview

The APWA Vocational Training Center – Golimar was established to provide women with hands-on, market-oriented vocational training that enables them to earn a livelihood with dignity. Located in a remote and economically challenged area of Karachi, the center offers women a safe and supportive environment where they can learn, create, and build sustainable income streams.

Through structured training programs in stitching, beautician services, henna art, and handicrafts, the center equips women with practical, income-generating skills. The initiative empowers women to seek employment, establish home-based businesses, and contribute financially to their families, thereby uplifting entire households and strengthening community resilience.

Need for the Project

In a world where economic independence is a key driver of empowerment, vocational training plays a transformative role in breaking cycles of poverty and dependence. For women living in underserved and marginalized communities, access to skill development is not merely an opportunity—it is a necessity for survival, dignity, and long-term progress.

Pakistan continues to face challenges in achieving universal education and skill development, resulting in a workforce that often lacks technical and market-relevant expertise. Women, particularly those residing in low-income urban settlements, are disproportionately affected by limited access to education, employment, and financial resources. Without practical skills, many women remain economically dependent, restricting their ability to contribute meaningfully to their households and communities.

Recognizing this urgent need, the All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA) has consistently remained at the forefront of women-centered skill development initiatives. The establishment of the APWA Vocational Training Center for Women – Golimar reflects APWA’s commitment to creating pathways toward financial independence, self-reliance, and social empowerment for women in one of Karachi’s most underserved areas.
